This site is devoted to history of creation, construction and service of a guided missile air cushion ships "BORA" and "SAMUM" of the Black Sea fleet, Russian Federation.

The guided missile air cushion ships has been created on a extremal Project 1239. Today this ships is a part of the 166-th Novorossiysky Small Rocket Ships Battalion 41-th Rocket Boat Brigade of the Black Sea fleet, and actively participates in actions and the doctrines spent on fleet.


 

Project 1239 Bora guided missile air cushion ship is designed to destroy enemy surface ships, fast attack craft, and transports in all water areas of closed sea theatres of operation and in short-range zone of open seas, when operating autonomously or as a flagship of uniform/mixed naval groups.

The ship’s high reliability and maintainability, catamaran hull made of corrosion-resistant aluminum-magnesium alloys, skirt, and flank-speed propulsion plants have been proven in longterm operations. Bora air cushion ship is powered by a combined CODOG-CODAG diesel/gas turbine plant comprising two reduction gear diesel units, two flank speed gas turbines, and two auxiliary diesel motors to drive superchargers inflating the skirt.
